AFL Head of Broadcasting Operations and Scheduling Josh Bowler acknowledged all those who had contributed to the record-breaking home and away season.
“It has been an incredible home and away season of the 2024 Toyota AFL Premiership with a number of records broken, including surpassing our all-time attendance record this weekend,” Mr Bowler said.
“On behalf of the AFL I would like to thank the 7.5 million fans who attended matches this season and the millions more who tuned in, along with every club, player, coach, umpire, staff member, and all our commercial and broadcast partners.
“The race for the top eight had a fitting ending and came down to the last match in Round 24 and we now have eight incredible teams playing in an exciting Week One fixture, all vying for a spot in the Grand Final on September 28.”
The Week One fixture seeks to maximise attendance and audience, while also balancing equitable days break between games for clubs as a result of aligning the two sides of the draw.
The 2024 Toyota AFL Finals Series starts at the Adelaide Oval as Port Adelaide host Geelong in the second Qualifying Final on Thursday night, followed by the Western Bulldogs playing Hawthorn at the MCG on Friday night in the second Elimination Final.
Minor premiers Sydney Swans will play host to their cross-town counterparts, the GWS GIANTS at the SCG on Saturday afternoon in the first Qualifying Final before the Brisbane Lions play Carlton at the Gabba on Saturday night in the first Elimination Final.
Week Two will see the loser of Port Adelaide and Geelong play the winner of Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn, while the loser of Sydney Swans and GWS GIANTS will play the winner of the Brisbane Lions and Carlton, with venues and times for matches to be confirmed at the conclusion of Week One.
The AFL last week announced for the ninth year running a price freeze on entry level tickets for all matches across Weeks One to Three, along with the Grand Final for the sixth year running, of the 2024 Toyota AFL Finals Series.
Match day ticket information for all games across the country will be released later today.
All matches in Week One of the 2024 Toyota AFL Finals Series will be broadcast live nationally on the Seven Network and Fox Footy and streamed live on Kayo.
The 2024 Toyota AFL Grand Final will be held at the MCG on Saturday, September 28 at 2:30pm AEST.
