Adelaide Crows

Small forward Myles Poholke did his chances of a recall no harm with a standout performance for Adelaide’s SANFL side in its match against South Adelaide. The youngster booted three goals and collected 15 disposals during the first quarter alone as the Crows opened up a 49-point lead early in the contest. He finished with four goals and 30 disposals as South Adelaide fought back to snatch a second consecutive draw. 

Josh Jenkins failed to make much impression in his first SANFL game since 2017, with the veteran big man spending time in the ruck and up forward to collect 11 disposals and 15 hit outs.

Mature age rookie Patrick Wilson was the leading possession winner for the Crows with 33.

Brisbane Lions

This weekend: Aspley v Brisbane - Friday, April 19, 1.30pm, Voxson Oval

A host of Brisbane players made a case for senior selection in the club's 48-point win over Aspley.

Medium-sized forward Toby Wooller had a day out, kicking four goals from his 23 disposals. He also took seven marks and laid six tackles.

Category B rookie and key forward Tom Fullarton, who used to play for NBL side Brisbane Bullets, also kicked four goals.

Re-listed rookie Ryan Bastinac was one of the side's best with 29 disposals, six marks, six tackles and three goals.

Jacob Allison (27 disposals), Lewis Taylor (26) and Tom Cutler (25) all had plenty of the ball.

Carlton

This weekend: Collingwood v Northern Blues - Saturday, April 20, 2pm, Victoria Park

Young key forward Patrick Kerr was the hero as he booted the winning goal in Northern Blues’ narrow three-point upset victory over Collingwood.

Kerr finished with three majors in an impressive performance, while Matthew Kennedy (22 disposals), Liam Stocker (19) and Tom Williamson (13) found plenty of the ball.

Former Cat Darcy Lang got through his second match of the year, while rookie-listed defender Hugh Goddard was named best on ground for his efforts on Pies big man Ben Reid.

Collingwood

This weekend: Collingwood v Northern Blues - Saturday, April 20, 2pm, Victoria Park

Veteran midfielder Daniel Wells got through his second game of the season unscathed, kicking two goals and getting named among the best players during the Pies’ three-point loss to the Northern Blues.

Rookie-listed player Tim Broomhead booted three goals for the Pies, while Ben CrockerJosh Daicos and Tyson Goldsack also contributed a major each.

Carlton

Jayden Laverde's return from an ankle injury was one to remember, kicking six goals from 19 disposals in the Bombers' 94-point thrashing of North Melbourne.

Draftee key forward Noah Gown also hit the scoreboard, kicking three goals from seven touches.

Midfielder Dylan Clarke worked hard, recording 20 disposals and seven tackles, while rookie Trent Mynott had a strong performance with 25, eight marks and two goals.

Martin Gleeson continues to build touch after returning from a long-term ankle and then a knee injury, finishing with 18 disposals and six marks in his second VFL game for the season.

Fremantle

This weekend: Peel Thunder v East Fremantle - Friday, April 19, 3.45pm, David Grays Arena

Bailey Banfield topped the disposal charts with 31 in Peel Thunder's 12-point win against East Fremantle.

The midfielder also kicked two goals and laid eight tackles in the victory.

Mature-age recruit Brett Bewley, who was plucked from VFL side Williamstown, was busy with 29 disposals and nine tackles.

Second-year midfielder Tom North's quest for a debut continued with a 27-disposal game, which has been his average this season.

Lachie Schultz, who was an emergency this weekend, also had 27, along with six tackles.

Geelong Cats

Experienced defender Zach Tuohy pulled up well following his first hit out of the season, collecting 14 disposals in the Cats’ thrilling three-point victory over Werribee.

In-form big man Ryan Abbott had 16 disposals and 36 hitouts in a best-on-ground performance, while James Parsons (26), Zach Guthrie (19) and Quinton Narkle (18) also found plenty of the ball.

Forgotten big man Zac Smith missed the clash and remains listed as an emergency for the Cats’ Easter Monday blockbuster against Hawthorn.

Gold Coast Suns

Forward-midfielder Aaron Young, who has been unable to add to his 98 AFL games this year, had a big game in the Suns' 38-point loss to GWS.

The former Port Adelaide player had 38 disposals, six tackles, five marks and kicked a goal.

Veteran Michael Rischitelli and winger Josh Schoenfeld both finished with 27 disposals and a goal.

Former VFL forward Josh Corbett was lively with 19 disposals, 10 marks and a goal.

GWS Giants

Rookie Zach Sproule's strong NEAFL form continued in Greater Western Sydney's 38-point win over Gold Coast, kicking five goals.

Fourteen of Sproule's 15 disposals were kicks, with the 20-year-old also taking six marks.

Running defender Isaac Cumming had a day out with 33 touches and nine marks, while Nick Shipley was equally prolific with 32 and seven tackles.

Draftee Ian Hill kicked two goals from eight touches in his first game for the season.

Aiden Bonar continues to build form in the NEAFL, finishing with 19 disposals, six tackles and two goals.

Hawthorn

Dumped big man Jonathon Ceglar booted a goal on a dirty day for Hawthorn’s VFL affiliate as Box Hill fell to a 24-point loss to Port Melbourne.

Impressive youngster Jackson Ross again hit the scoreboard with a goal, Teia Miles was named among the best players, while Irishman Conor Glass picked up 16 disposals.

Melbourne

With the Casey Demons scheduled for a bye in the VFL, a host of Melbourne-listed players turned out at the MCG in a practice match against the Australian under 18 team.

With one eye on the Anzac Day eve blockbuster against Richmond, many Melbourne-listed players were rested from the clash or only played the first half of the 23-point loss.

Veteran small forward Jeff Garlett and strong utility Alex Neal-Bullen each booted a goal, while Corey Maynard sat out the match.

North Melbourne

This weekend: North Melbourne v Essendon - Saturday, April 20, 11am, Avalon Airport Oval

Small forward Nathan Hrovat was North Melbourne's best AFL-listed player in a dirty day that saw the side lose to Essendon by 94 points.

The 24-year-old, who is yet to play a senior game this year, had 28 disposals and seven marks.

There was slim pickings other than that, with father-son forward Joel Crocker (16 disposals, four marks) and ruck Tom Campbell (34 hitouts, 12 disposals and a goal) also featuring.

The Roos had a litany of injury complaints, starting with Dom Tyson pulling out with calf tightness. 

Draftee Tom Wilkinson didn't finish with match due to an ankle injury, Kyron Hayden was treated for a hand issue while Nick Larkey'day finished in the third term due to illness.

Port Adelaide

This weekend: Norwood v Port Adelaide - Thursday, April 18, 7.50pm, Coopers Stadium

Jack Trengove's push for senior selection continued, amassing 37 disposals in Port Adelaide's 34-point loss to Norwood on Thursday night.

The former Melbourne skipper – who also kicked two goals and had eight clearances – is averaging 40 disposals from his four SANFL matches.

Ex-Cat Steven Motlop had 31 touches, 10 clearances and a goal after being dropped from the AFL side, but could find it hard to break back in considering Port Adelaide's strong win over West Coast.

Third-year midfielder Joe Atley, whose three AFL games came back in 2017, also had 31 disposals and kicked a goal.

Lively runner Karl Amon, who failed to secure a trade to Victoria last year, was also busy with 31 and two goals.

Richmond

Young gun Hunter Clark responded to his omission from the senior side with 28 disposals and a goal in Sandringham's first win of the season. 

With a spot in St Kilda's line-up opening up after captain Jarryn Geary's operation for a corked thigh, defender Brandon White collected 26 disposals and seven marks. 

Tough onballer Luke Dunstan had 21 and booted two goals in Sandy's 24-point victory, while speedster Nick Hind (20), Nick Coffield (19) and Darragh Joyce (16) also featuring relatively high up on the stats sheet. 

Ruckman Billy Longer continued his impressive form since returning from a left hamstring injury, racking up 38 hitouts in the Zebras' 14.8 (92) to 9.14 (68) victory.

Sydney Swans

Nick Blakey did his chances of a recall no harm with two goals in a best on ground performance during the Swans’ reserves come-from-behind seven-point victory over Redland.

Blakey, who was omitted from Sydney’s side after playing the first four games of the season, collected 22 disposals and took six marks while playing most of the match in the midfield.

Irishman Colin O’Riordan picked up 26 possessions, while Lewis Melican was also named among the best players.

West Coast Eagles

State league affiliate: West Coast (WAFL)
This weekend: Subiaco v West Coast - Friday, April 19, 1.15pm, Leederville Oval

Second-year forward Jarrod Brander was one of West Coast's best in its 15-point loss to Subiaco on Friday.

Brander, who played in the AFL team's round one side, had 23 disposals and kicked two goals.

Defender Kurt Mutimer also had 23 disposals, including 16 kicks.

Brendon Ah Chee put in another consistent effort with 22 touches and seven tackles, while forward Matthew Allen had 21 and eight marks.

Rookie ruckman Keegan Brooksby had the best of the ruck duel with 42 hitouts, 21 disposals and six tackles.

Western Bulldogs
