MELBOURNE midfielder Brad Green has indicated media hysteria surrounding draftee Jack Watts' form was unwarranted and irrational.

Green said the criticism directed towards Watts was unfair, considering he had played just three AFL matches and was completing year 12 in his first AFL season.

"Jack's in the papers for all the wrong reasons," Green said from the Junction Oval on Tuesday.

"He's a competitive kid and he's going to be a great kid and he's going to be a great footballer for our footy club.

"No doubt, Jack will play fantastic games for this footy club in the coming years."
