FORMER midfielder David Rodan will take another step towards becoming an AFL goal umpire when he officiates during the upcoming JLT Community Series.
The 33-year-old took up umpiring after his 185-game AFL career finished in 2013.
He spent last season umpiring and surprised the crowd at the EJ Whitten Legends Game when he performed 'the worm' dance move after a goal was scored.
Such theatrics are not expected during the pre-season as he has earned the call-up through his accuracy in decision making.
Meanwhile, emerging umpire Elena Glouftsis will once again umpire in the pre-season after becoming the first female field umpire in an AFL match during last year's pre-season game between Carlton and Essendon.
Although the exact game Glouftsis will take part in is yet to be decided, new AFL umpires boss Peter Schwab confirmed she would officiate again this pre-season.
Schwab said there is every chance Glouftsis could make the AFL's senior umpiring list at some stage as she continued to develop.
"I think there is every chance that women can do every umpiring role in our game so we're very open to that," Schwab said.
The JLT Community Series kicks off on Thursday, February 16, while the NAB AFL Women's competition begins on Friday, February 3.
