THE NEW Perth Stadium will feature seats up to twice as wide as the old bench seats at Domain Stadium in order to enhance the 'fan first' experience when the venue hosts AFL football in 2018.
The design, colour and size of the seats for the new stadium at Burswood have been revealed.
The seats will be 50cm wide with a rubber cup holder on the back of all 60,000 seats in the venue. The colour is neutral to fit in with the overall design of the stadium.
The colour and the design of the seats were determined after 18 months of testing.
WA's sports minister Mia Davies inspected the seats this week along with the Sports Fans User Group and was pleased with the design and comfort.
"The seat colour and design had to be durable for the unique Western Australian climate, be visually appealing, comfortable, not impact on on-field performance and offer contrast to the colours of our home teams," Ms Davies said.
"Seat comfort is an important factor and feedback from the Sports Fans User Group was hugely valuable during the design selection process.
"The seats are 50cm wide with rubber cup holders that will be located on the back of every seat, adding to the 'fans first' experience. To put their size into context, one new seat at Perth Stadium is about as wide as two bench seats at Domain Stadium – so fans will notice a significant difference when they come to watch a football game or cricket match in 2018."
The new stadium is over 40 per cent complete and is on track to be ready for the start of the 2018 AFL season when both Fremantle and West Coast are set move home games to the venue from Domain Stadium.
