HAWTHORN spearhead Jack Gunston admits he has struggled with his goalkicking in 2015, but is confident he can rediscover his accuracy during the finals.
Last year, Gunston kicked 58.27 and finished the year ranked No.2 for accuracy among the top 15 goalkickers in the League.
This season, however, his efficiency in front of goal has plummeted from 63.7 per cent to 50.
This year, he has kicked 44.32 and currently has the lowest conversion rate of the top 15 contenders in the race for the Coleman Medal.
"Obviously this year in front of goal hasn't been one of my best," Gunston told AFL.com.au.
"[My efficiency] has obviously been a disappointing part [of my game] this year but I'm working hard out on the track and I know it will come back.
"You want to make the most of your opportunities when you're in front of goal because it can turn a good game into a great game, so it's obviously something I've been working on a little bit."
Gunston's wayward goalkicking this season is a result of a combination of factors.
The 23-year-old dislocated a finger against Adelaide in round 12 and has worn a protective glove on his left hand ever since.
While that's taken some adjustment, Gunston believes he may be too relaxed running into goal, which has impacted negatively on his technique.
"I guess what's going through the head at times maybe [might be the problem]," he said.
"I've had a few niggles through the year here and there. It's just being a combination of little things that can put you off just that 5 per cent.
"Sometimes I can be too relaxed running into goal and lean back on it. I just want to get back into the routine that I had over the last couple of years. It's slowly coming back but it's just about concentrating at the top of the mark.
"There's a few things that are just adding up but hopefully it can come back during finals."
The Hawks will need Gunston firing at the business end of the season if they are to have any chance of clinching a rare three-peat.
His record in September is excellent, with the athletic forward having kicked 17 goals across the Hawks' past three finals campaigns.
Only Jarryd Roughead has kicked more with 18.
Gunston is out of contract at the end of 2016 but is hopeful of signing an extension before the start of next season.
"It's obviously something I want to work towards with this footy club," he said.
"I've got no intentions of going anywhere so I'm sure it will happen either at the end of this year or the start of next year. "
