HAWTHORN has named 13 players from last year's premiership for Thursday night's NAB Challenge clash against Collingwood at Aurora Stadium.
Among the stars not named in the 29-man squad are Cyril Rioli, Luke Hodge and Brian Lake.
Coach Alastair Clarkson forecast on Monday night that the Hawks would keep the majority of their stars in cotton wool for their first competitive hit-out for the season.
Still, the club has named Sam Mitchell, Jack Gunston, Jarryd Roughead, Brad Hill, Josh Gibson and Jordan Lewis in the extended squad.
Collingwood has also named a young group, with stars Scott Pendlebury, Travis Cloke and Dane Swan among those missing.
Trade acquisitions Levi Greenwood, Travis Varcoe, Jack Crisp could all be unveiled in black and white as well as new draftees Jordan De Goey and Matthew Goodyear.
Nathan Freeman, who has played one pre-season game for the Magpies, could make his competitive return from a serious hamstring injury that all but wiped out his debut season.
