GREATER Western Sydney defender Lachie Plowman is set to miss the start of the premiership season after dislocating his left elbow at training on Thursday.
The 20-year-old had surgery in Sydney on Thursday night after he fell awkwardly during a training drill.
Plowman, who was selected by the Giants with pick No.3 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft, is expected to be sidelined for up to 12 weeks.
"It's disappointing for Lachie as he's worked hard so far in the pre-season," Giants football manager Graeme Allan told the club's website.
"But we're very confident he'll regain full fitness and make an impact in 2015."
Plowman managed 12 games for the Giants in 2014 to bring his overall tally to 18.
Meanwhile, Jon Patton and Tim Mohr are making strong progress in their returns from knee reconstructions.
Patton took part in the club's 3km time trial at Tom Wills Oval on Monday and is eyeing a mid-season return.
Mohr – who adds much needed grunt and experience to the Giants' backline – is targeting an early season return.
Small forward Liam Sumner looks likely to miss the start of the season proper due to a navicular stress fracture in his right foot, while James Stewart – who dealt with a bout of glandular fever – is working towards full fitness.
Jeremy Finlayson (hip) is set to start full training next month, while Zac Williams (ankle) is also close to joining the main group at training.
