GEELONG will kick off week two of the AFL finals series, with a cut-throat semi-final on Friday night at the MCG.

The Cats, who went down to Hawthorn by 36-points in their qualifying final clash, will face the winner of Saturday night's clash between North Melbourne and Essendon in the second semi-final.

Fremantle will be looking to rebound from their qualifying final loss to the Swans, when they host either Port Adelaide or Richmond at Patersons Stadium in the first semi-final.

That match will be played on Saturday evening with the first bounce at 5.45pm Perth time.

Meanwhile the AFL has confirmed the first preliminary final hosted by the Swans will be played on the night of Friday 19 September at ANZ Stadium.

Their opponent will come from the Geelong and North Melbourne/Essendon semi-final, while the Hawks will play their preliminary final at the MCG on Saturday 20 September.
