The Port Adelaide Football Club confirms that it will again draw upon the creed to guide it as it reinforces its unique identity and core football values.
The club will ask its people – players, staff, members and supporters – to come together to Live the Creed.
The club aims to make the three words Live the Creed (as well as the creed itself and the club’s establishment date of 1870), publicly synonymous with the Port Adelaide Football Club.
Deputy Chairman Brett Duncanson said the authentic identity of the club will be celebrated because it is one of the Power’s greatest strengths.
“Live the Creed is a very exciting and positive initiative for our members, our supporters, our players and our staff,” he said.
“We want to reinforce the identity of this club and celebrate the values that made it great over 138 years.
“The creed Fos Williams wrote in 1962 does it perfectly. It asks us to ‘accept the heritage handed down to us’, to ‘suffer personal sacrifices’, and to be ‘devoted to the cause’.
“We will ask everyone in our club – staff, players, members and supporters – to Live the Creed. It embodies the spirit that makes Port Adelaide unique.
“We expect this initiative to really please our supporters and to appeal strongly to new supporters looking for an authentic footy club that brings supporters and players together.
“We know this because we have been doing a lot of research since the beginning of the year, before the season began, throughout the club and through supporter focus groups. It all also comes with the full backing and support of the AFL.”
Details of Port Adelaide’s Live the Creed initiative will be unveiled to supporters over coming weeks.
“This is a major initiative of the club and we look forward to sharing it with our members and supporters,” Brett said.
“It is one of a string of really positive announcements coming up for everyone at Port Adelaide.”
