Magpies sign former SwanTony Armstrong as delisted free agent
COLLINGWOOD has signed small defender Tony Armstrong as a delisted free agent, extending his career after 29 games with the Sydney Swans and Adelaide.
The 24-year-old's move to the Westpac Centre completes the Magpies' list ahead of the 2013 NAB AFL Draft, with the club to take selections No.6 and No.10 to the Gold Coast on November 21.
Armstrong, who represented Australia in the recent International Rules Series, is currently overseas and will start training with his new club on November 18.
"Tony is a lovely kick with either foot and a pacey defender we think can make a strong contribution," Collingwood list manager Derek Hine said.
"He has played senior football and what he is capable of was on display in the NEAFL grand final when he won the Alex Jesaulenko Medal as best afield."
Armstrong was expected to join Collingwood as part of the trade that sent Jesse White to the Magpies, but he was eventually withheld from that deal.
The club was committed to signing him, however, once the window for delisted free agency opened.
Armstrong becomes the fourth mature recruit Collingwood has added to its list in the off-season, joining White, Patrick Karnezis (Brisbane Lions) and Taylor Adams (Greater Western Sydney).
