DESPITE signing a three-year contract last week, Geelong midfielder Sam Menegola doesn't think he will "ever feel comfortable" in the AFL.

Menegola collected 22 disposals and a goal in the Cats' two-point comeback win against Fremantle on Sunday at Simonds Stadium and has impressed since he was drafted at No. 66 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft.

The West Australian's deal has him signed to the club until the end of 2020 but his tumultuous time in the AFL keeps him on edge.

The 25-year-old was a rookie at Hawthorn and Fremantle and spent time with Subiaco in the WAFL before finding himself on the Cats' list.

"With some of the curve balls AFL has thrown me, it just keeps you on your toes," Menegola told Melbourne radio station RSN on Monday morning.

"Even at the start of this year, I was out of the side in round one and two off a really good pre-season. I had a couple of weeks where I wasn't that great. I probably wasn't doing a lot wrong, but just because our list is so strong, I wasn't in the side.

"Bits and pieces like that constantly remind you that the AFL's pretty hard. I feel like my footy stacks up and it belongs at the level but I don't think I'll ever feel comfortable."

Since missing the opening two rounds, Menegola has played 10 matches and averaged 22 disposals per game.

"I certainly don't feel like I made it. I'm not sure I ever will. (The new contract) is a good feeling but it is sort of weird, because … I've spent so long on one-year deals," Menegola said.

"Last year, I was coming off a two-year (deal) so that felt weird. I've sort of got used to it a little bit, being supported by Geelong, and that in itself is a really nice feeling.

"It's good to have stability. It's good for (partner) Emma and my family, for the next few years at least, the rollercoaster bumps and dips are going to be a little less severe, so that side of it's good."

Geelong sits in third spot at 9-4 ahead of its clash with Greater Western Sydney at Spotless Stadium on Saturday night.
