Despite a lengthy injury list, which includes experienced defensive duo James Clement (calf) and Simon Prestigiacomo (foot), Fraser said the Magpies head into the match at Telstra Stadium confident the replacements will be good enough.
"We've made do. I think we'd be under-selling the younger guys that came in and have performed pretty well for us if we didn't go up there and expect to fight out a pretty hard-fought match," Fraser said.
"Those guys that were playing good footy last year I reckon have taken the next step. They are having more of a presence around the club."
Clement did not participate in training, while Rhyce Shaw was restricted to running laps.
Youngster Harry O'Brien, who has shown some good form holding down a key defensive post, is also out with a shoulder injury, which further limits coach Mick Malthouse's options for Sydney forwards Barry Hall and Michael O'Loughlin.
And in the ruck, Fraser and Chris Bryan or Guy Richards will battle with Peter Everitt and Darren Jolly, who are both in the top 10 in terms of hitouts.
"They probably get their hands on the ball more than any other ruck combination going around," Fraser said.
"Spida seems to have gone back to some of his better form and Jolly is really important to their structure at stoppages.
"It's going to be a big opportunity, a big test, knowing that Sydney loves to play that stoppage brand of footy."
Collingwood sit fifth with a 7-4 win-loss record, ahead of the 10th placed Swans at 6-5. After winning the corresponding match in 2006, the Magpies lost their next three matches, a fate Fraser said the club was well placed to avoid this year.
"I just think we're a better side," Fraser said."The maturity of the group in situations like this where we've been in the past, you can just feel a different vibe amongst the boys and that gives you a lot of confidence that there's not going to be a repeat of last year."
The Magpies also received some help at training from an experienced source to improve their inaccuracy in front of goal.
Former Collingwood and Richmond full-forward Brian Taylor was on hand to give some goal-kicking advice to Anthony Rocca (22.21 this year) and Travis Cloke (15.19).
Fraser hoped Taylor will be a regular feature at training throughout the season.
"He's got a fair bit to offer from what we can gather," Fraser said.
"Even if it's that one per cent, even if it helps one bloke, then it's definitely worth having him around."
