IVAN Maric is no certainty to head to Richmond despite being linked to the club for months.

The Tigers have been in discussions with Adelaide about trading for the experienced ruckman but Crows list manager David Noble said there was no guarantee he would find his way to Punt Road.

"There may be a late player (in negotiations for Maric) but he has made a decision that that is where his best opportunity lies," Noble said on Monday.

"From our side of things, we've got to make sure we get the best deal for our footy club. If that allows those players to get to the clubs of their choice that is fine but if we have to get back to those players to say they need to consider another option well that is what we have to do."

Earlier St Kilda head of football Chris Pelchen had said the Saints were interested in snaring a ruckman at the trade table but Noble would not confirm if the Saints were the other interested party.

Adelaide is also in talks with Hawthorn about Jack Gunston who had declared the Hawks his club of choice but Noble said that trade was not close to being completed.

"It's progressing. We think we are heading in the right direction. We started initial discussions with them last week and so today things have progressed reasonably well," Noble said.

"There's nothing for us to go home and consider at the moment. I guess we've got quite a few balls in the air at the moment so we have to see where a couple of those land at the moment until we get to where we want to get at the end."

The Crows will also negotiate with the Sydney Swans after Tony Armstrong told them he wanted a move to the harbor city. Noble said that trade was no closer to being completed than the Maric or Gunston deals.

"No more than any of the others to be honest with you. The three we've got on the go at the moment are all progressing about the same. There is no one that has got in front of any of the others," he said.

Sydney Swans coach John Longmire said he was uncertain about what it would take to get Armstrong in a Swans guernsey.

"We don't know yet. I guess they've got a couple of things they're sorting out from their end as well," Longmire told afl.com.au.

"They probably need to sort that out and see what comes of that."

No trades are official until paperwork has been accepted by the AFL and formally recognised after 2pm on Monday, October 17.
