RORY Atkins has emerged as the potential circuit breaker in a three-club, five-player trade that will likely see Dan Houston land at Collingwood.
Atkins is set to move to Port Adelaide as part of the talks, with the Power also likely to land the much-wanted pick No.13 from Gold Coast in addition to its trade targets Jack Lukosius and Joe Richards.
The deal would see Houston move to Collingwood, where he would take up a six-year offer, with the Pies also a chance to snag some later picks as part of the agreement.
Gold Coast would secure Noble and future first-round selections from both Collingwood and Port Adelaide, but would lose Lukosius and hand over its sought-after No.13 and 29 selections.
Atkins, contracted at the Suns for 2025, would also leave Queensland and return to South Australia in what had loomed as the final piece in the trade talks.
The clubs are still haggling over some potential later pick-swaps, though the bones of the trade were agreed on Monday afternoon with a blockbuster move now edging closer to the finish line. - Riley Beveridge

DELISTED Gold Coast forward Sam Day is being considered by Brisbane as a potential replacement for retired premiership hero Joe Daniher.
AFL.com.au's Josh Gabelich believes there are a number of possibilities available to the Lions, but the 32-year-old Day, who has kicked 117 goals in his 155-game career, would be a ready-made replacement for Daniher.
"He's being considered by the Lions. Nothing concrete yet, and they might make a move essentially as a delisted free agent because he was delisted by the Suns back in September," Gabelich said on the Trade Exchange on Monday.
"He clearly wants to go on and play a bit more footy. He's one I think to keep an eye on going forward."
Another potential replacement is 28-year-old St Kilda tall Jack Hayes, but Collingwood looks to be first in line for his services given he has already completed a medical at the club. - Phoebe McWilliams
CURTIS Taylor's manager Liam Pickering has confirmed there are clubs interested in the former North Melbourne forward as a delisted free agent.
Taylor, who played 76 games in his six seasons at the Kangaroos, was told his services were no longer required at Arden Street at the end of the 2024 season.
"There's some interest in Curtis. It wouldn't be as a trade. He's a delisted free agent now so he can sort of go on a list at any time," said Pickering on Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio.
"He's a talented player ... I've got a lot of belief in Curtis as a footballer. He's worked his backside off … he's a kid who I reckon at 24 will be ready to hit his best football."
Pickering, who also manages Gold Coast's Brayden Fiorini, confirmed the midfielder will remain at the Suns next year, and hopes that Ethan Phillips will remain at the Hawks in 2025. – Phoebe McWilliams

CARLTON'S Jacob Weitering says an offer put forward to him from St Kilda during the year would have "turned a few heads".
Fresh off signing a six-year contract extension at the Blues, Weitering said on Gettable on Monday that he wasn't fussed by the Saints' offer, and instead just wanted to get a deal done at Carlton.
"The St Kilda one (offer) during the year would have turned a few heads, but for me I tend to be less fussed.. I just wanted to get it done sooner rather than later, " the former No.1 pick told AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey and Riley Beveridge on Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio.
Weitering was already contracted with Carlton for 2025, but the vice-captain recommitted early, tying him to the club until 2031.
"I've done it (signed early) on previous deals and made sure that it was a deal that both parties were happy with. One, that secured my future and my family's future and two, the club has to be willing and able to do so," he said.
"(I'm) very happy to be part of the club for another seven years and … I know if I prepare the right way and play the right way I'll return the faith to the club and the fans." – Phoebe McWilliams

The prospect of Bailey Smith being walked to the draft in November remains alive, with the Western Bulldogs and Geelong seemingly at an impasse.
The Cats have put forward pick 17 for Smith, but the Bulldogs want a better deal for the 23-year-old.
But with Smith uncontracted, the Cats have the option of simply not completing a deal during the trade period and instead picking up Smith in the draft next month.
"I still see a way, and I think it's at least a 50-50 chance, that it is through the mechanism of the draft," AFL.com.au's Damian Barrett said this morning on AFL Daily.
"I don't see a way where it's even any worry for the Cats. They will get him, for nothing, through the draft.
"How hard can (Bulldogs list manager) Sam Power be? The option for Geelong is to just walk him." - Martin Smith
After his departure from Collingwood this year, new Carlton deputy CEO Graham Wright could rub salt into the wounds if he's able to help the Blues secure a deal for Port Adelaide's Dan Houston.
The race for Houston is between four clubs, with the Magpies and Blues still in the race along with North Melbourne, while the Power could hold the two-time All-Australian to his contract and keep him at Alberton.
Collingwood is looking to secure pick 13 from Gold Coast, which it would then offer to Port as part of the deal for Houston, but the Blues are also firmly in the race given they hold two prized picks - 12 and 14 - in this year's draft.
Wright stepped away as Collingwood's footy boss after last year's premiership for an extended break overseas before he departed the Pies officially in August.
Last week, he joined Carlton as deputy CEO and will ultimately take over the role full time from Brian Cook.
AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey says Wright will play a key role in Carlton's work in the final three days of the trade period.
"Graham Wright starts at Carlton officially today - could he get one over the Magpies right away by snatching Houston?," Twomey posed on Gettable.
"That's another degree of interest in where this one (the Houston race) plays out over the next two or three days.
"It's still very much in flux." - Martin Smith

With Melbourne securing Essendon's pick 9 in a trade this morning, the race for Gold Coast's pick 13 will only heat up.
The Suns have offered up their prized first-round pick during the trade period as part of its plans to secure Academy prospect Leo Lombard, with Collingwood, Carlton, Melbourne, St Kilda, the Western Bulldogs and Sydney all expressing an interest.
The Demons are now out of the race, but AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey is reporting around a third of the competition is chasing the pick.
Whichever way the Suns go, it's set to have major ramifications for the rest of the trade period, particularly for Dan Houston.

With the Dees out, the Suns still have lots of takers for the pick with big offers - Pies, North, West Coast a chance if Barrass deal progresses, Dogs, Hawks. Suns can't lose but their call on 13 will shape last three days.
Bailey Smith will be desperate to get a trade done and land at Geelong this week rather than having to wait for the national draft in November, according to AFL.com.au's Josh Gabelich.
Trade talks between the Cats and Western Bulldogs have reached a standstill, raising the prospect of Geelong walking Smith to the draft next month and securing him that way.
But Gabelich hopes Smith gets to the Cats before the trade deadline on Wednesday so that he has clarity and stability around his training, instead of waiting until the November 20-21 draft or pre-season draft the following day.
The uncontracted Smith has been seen training alone at a local football oval in Elwood, with the star midfielder currently without a club base.
"From Geelong's perspective, they need some clarity for Bailey Smith because it's a long 6-8 weeks if you've got to get through to the National Draft on November 20 or the pre-season draft," said Gabelich.
"This guy has not played since 2023, he had the ACL back in December last year. He needs a bit of clarity on his future, he needs a place to be training and an off season program.
"He's a very professional, diligent preparer, but he's been up in Queensland, he's been in Victoria, he's been training on his own a lot in the last couple of months.
"It would be in his best interest to get this sorted clearly by the deadline (on Wednesday) rather than having to go through another way." - Phoebe McWilliams
Coming up on Gettable at midday AEDT
FREMANTLE has not given up on Liam Baker and is ready to pounce should his preferred move to West Coast fall over.
The Eagles' plans to trade for Baker hit a roadblock on Friday when Hawthorn handed its first-round selection to Carlton, the pick West Coast thought it might get for Tom Barrass.
It was expected the Eagles would then hand that pick to Richmond in a deal for Baker, but that is no longer possible.
Baker still wants to reunite with Andrew McQualter at the Eagles, but the door is ajar for Fremantle to pounce.
Speaking on Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio on Monday morning, Dockers' football boss Joe Brierty said they had "tabled a position" to Richmond they thought could get Baker in.
"Our understanding is his desire is still to get to West Coast," Brierty said.
"From our point of view, we're respectful of that ... (but) he suits our list and our profile and if the opportunity was to arise, we feel we have the collateral to meet Richmond's needs.
"Ultimately, it's in Liam's corner. We see the opportunity that could arise ahead of us, so we'll continue to have those discussions with he and his manager.
"We've been really proactive in speaking with Richmond and been clear and tabled a position in what we think it would look like from an offer point of view."
Brierty confirmed Fremantle had offered picks 10 and 18 for Shai Bolton and said they would not budge from that.
The Dockers also have pick 11 at their disposal and have offered up all three picks to Richmond in exchange for both Baker and Bolton.
"From our point of view, we look at the talent of Shai and situation we're in ... we feel like the offer is really strong for him," Brierty said.
"Ultimately, we need to be responsible as a club and be balanced in our approach. We want to see Shai at our football club, and we feel like it's a really strong offer.
"If both were looking to come into the club ... we'd love to have them both." - Michael Whiting

Don't forget Carlton in the race for Dan Houston.
With the Blues holding picks 12 and 14 after completing a pick swap with Hawthorn last week, it was expected Houston would move to either Collingwood or North Melbourne or stay at Port Adelaide.
But AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey says the Blues remain well and truly in the hunt.

Carlton is back in the Dan Houston mix. As Pies weigh up their moves for pick 13 - and then Houston - the Blues are considering their play given they hold picks 12 & 14.

A total of EIGHT picks are set to be involved, with Cal Twomey reporting the Bombers will give the Demons their prized Pick 9 in this year's draft as well as their third-round pick next year.
The Bombers will get six picks in return; picks 28, 40, 46, 54 and 65 this year as well as Melbourne's first-round pick next year.

Why did Adelaide complete the pick swap with Melbourne this morning? Cal Twomey explains
Why the Crows completed pick swap
Crows weren't going to use the pick in the draft, leaving them with pick No.4 and 64. 64 should be able to cover a bid if it comes late for father-son Tyler Welsh. If it comes a tad earlier then Crows can go into deficit on that round. Adelaide has James Peatling deal left to go. https://t.co/U2d7kuE2u7

Carlton has confirmed a six-year contract extension for star defender Jacob Weitering.
Weitering was already contracted until the end of 2025 and would have been a free agent when his current deal expired.
But the All-Australian defender has signed a new deal that will take him through to the end of 2031.
"Carlton made a significant investment in me in 2015, and I couldn't imagine playing football anywhere else," Weitering said.
"I have always wanted to be a one-club player, and I feel like I have grown up alongside my teammates in my nine years here.
"When I first started at the club, we went through some tough times, but I couldn't be more confident in the stability and direction of the football club as we head into the coming years. It has taken a lot of hard work as a collective to get to this point and that hard work is far from over."
An early morning pick swap, with Adelaide doing a deal with Melbourne. The Crows are tight with their list spots this year, so are expected to only take one pick - Pick 4 - into the draft this year.
