Upgraded rookie Shannon Byrnes and pre-season draft selection Paul Koulouriotis are in line to play their first games for Geelong after being named in the 25-man squad for Sunday’s clash with Sydney at Skilled Stadium.

The pair are joined in the squad by David Johnson, back from a groin injury, and David Spriggs who has been in good form in the VFL. Brent Moloney has been forced out after having surgery this week to repair damage to his finger.

Byrnes was upgraded from the rookie list this week to replace James Kelly, who is out for the season with a broken leg. The 20 year old has been in exceptional form in the VFL.

Koulouriotis played three games with Port Adelaide in 2000 but battled injury during his time with the Power. He has been among Geelong’s best in the VFL all season and was an emergency last week when the Cats beat Collingwood. Koulouriotis was originally selected by the Power with the 12 pick in the 1999 national draft.

Johnson has been a solid performer in eight games this season but has missed the past two after pulling up sore following the win over Brisbane.

Spriggs continues to close in on a recall to the senior line up for the first time since round three. Spriggs has consistently been in the Cats best VFL players and his pace would be a handy acquisition against the Swans.
