SOUTH Australian football fans have been promised improved mobile coverage at the redeveloped Adelaide Oval as part of a new multimillion-dollar investment.

In a plan to turn the thriving stadium into "one of Australia's most technically advanced" venues, telecommunications giant Telstra is upgrading the existing mobile coverage and installing more than 1000 new screens.

The main entrance is also set to undergo a full upgrade and will be renamed the Telstra Plaza.

Adelaide Oval has recently undergone a $535 million redevelopment, with crowd numbers up significantly in 2014.

Chairman of the stadium management authority, John Olsen, said the Adelaide Oval aimed to become one of the "world's greatest sporting ovals".

"Football fans in particular tend to be big data users, so this increased capacity will be great news for the tens of thousands who come to watch AFL football here every week," Olsen said.
