COLLINGWOOD'S season is now filled with "eight-point games", says small forward Jarryd Blair.
The Magpies overcame a 24-point deficit at quarter-time to overrun a stunned Greater Western Sydney on Saturday, booting 15 goals to four either side of half-time to come away with a deserved victory.
The result lifts Collingwood to a 7-8 win-loss record and in with some chance to still figure in the September action, albeit an unlikely one, given that five of its remaining seven games are against sides in the top eight.
Blair says the team, which has won three games in a row and is unbeaten since its mid-season bye, is approaching every game between now and round 23 with great confidence, starting with Adelaide next weekend.
"If we are good enough, these are the sides that we have to beat to play finals, and we will play them in the finals as well if we do make it," Blair said after the match.
"Talk about eight-point games, it is pretty much like that for us every week from here on in, which is exciting.
"If we can keep turning up and really testing ourselves against sides that have proven themselves in the first half of the year, it will go a long way to making finals and hopefully performing well with a bit of confidence against these sides again."
On Saturday afternoon, Collingwood dragged itself back into the contest thanks to some inspired ruck work from Brodie Grundy, who had 26 touches and 28 hit-outs against the veteran Shane Mumford.
The visitors were also able to put more pressure on their opponents after quarter-time, with Blair and teammate Travis Varcoe each finishing the match with a team high seven tackles.
"Our pressure was really good today. They are a pretty classy side and use the footy well, so to be able to have them quick-kicking out of the backline at times was really good," Blair said.
"If you can put pressure on any side like that it really sets you up and gives your defenders a chance to get good position.
"It was a great effort to really knuckle down and do some work for the next two quarters particularly and just hold out in the last.
"We've committed to each other to really try to finish off the season well and have a great second half of the year."
The 26-year-old Blair also entered the race for goal of the year with the second of his two goals, a spectacular on-the-run effort from deep in the right full forward pocket that split the big sticks just before half time.
