The moment: Collingwood’s style has been to get the job done with a minimum of fuss this season but flashy forward Alan Didak couldn’t resist reminding Henry Slattery just who was the top team on Friday night. After booting a goal at the 21-minute mark of the final term, Didak got right in his opponent's face in a rare moment of show-boating from a team many believe will win the flag.

2. Carlton 23.18 (156) d Richmond 10.7 (67) at MCG

The moment: The Tigers threw in the towel early against the Blues on Saturday. After a strong mark and goal from Lachie Henderson, the Carlton trainer offered the big forward a towel for his good work. But it was Richmond defender Brett Deledio who took up the offer, taking the towel and helping wipe the face of Henderson in what can only be described as a bizarre piece of goodwill.

3. Sydney Swans 14.12 (96) d Fremantle 13.9 (87) at Subiaco Oval

The moment: Jesse White had a dark day against Fremantle on Saturday but he bobbed up in the dying minutes to kick the match-winning goal in thrilling circumstances. Jarrad McVeigh won a disputed ground ball in the forward pocket and rushed a handball towards the goal square. The big forward did the rest, soccering through his only goal to snatch a courageous win for the injury-hit Swans.

4. Geelong 25.11 (161) d Western Bulldogs 9.6 (60)

The moment: Steve Johnson was in flashy five-goal form on Saturday night, meaning he did his best to make the easy look as difficult as possible. Early in the second term, the ball floated in and conked Johnson clean on the scone before he grabbed it, composed himself, avoided the oncoming clutches of Bulldog Liam Picken, pivoted and booted a beauty.

5. Port Adelaide 8.13 (61) d  West Coast 8.12 (60) at AAMI Stadium

The moment: In a game short of highlights until the frantic last quarter, it wasn’t hard to find comical errors from both sides and none was more bizarre than Kane Cornes' failed marking attempt in the second term. Danny Meyer crossed the ball to Cornes, who should have taken a routine chest mark. Instead, the ball bounced off his chest, hit him in the face and fell to the ground.

6. Adelaide 15.14 (104) d Brisbane Lions 13.19 (97) at the Gabba

The moment: In a see-sawing final quarter, both sides squandered several chances and Travis Johnstone's miss was one of the worst. The Lions locked the ball in their goal square when he seized the Sherrin cleanly, only to grubber the ball through for a point from three metres out to level the scores. It summed up the Lions' afternoon as they booted a wasteful 13.19.

7. Hawthorn 15.9 (99) d Melbourne 12.6 (78) at the MCG

The moment: Liam Jurrah provided one of the highlights of a fantastic game at the MCG. Having spent time on the bench with a badly-dislocated finger, the Warlpiri Wizard sprinted onto a turnover from Brendan Whitecross late in the second quarter with good mate Austin Wonaeamirri riding shotgun. Just when it seemed the boundary line was going to beat them to it, Jurrah threw his right boot at the ball and high-fived the crowd as it spun through for a goal.

8. St Kilda 17.13 (115) d North Melbourne 9.9 (63) at Etihad Stadium

The moment: Lenny Hayes evoked memories of club legend Robert Harvey with a beautiful sidestep at half back to set up a flowing St Kilda attack. Hayes rounded his opponent and delivered to Nick Riewoldt, who fed Brett Peake for a classy finish on the run. Who said Saints footy was stodgy?
