The Gold Coast captain received eight votes, second only to Essendon star Brendon Goddard (10), in the Suns' loss at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Ablett started the season with a perfect 10 in his side's upset of St Kilda before going voteless for two rounds, but his consistency since has been astonishing. He has polled in each of his past nine appearances, and has received 52 votes in his past six games alone.
The latter effort almost matches the season tally of his nearest rival, Sydney midfielder Dan Hannebery (54), whose Swans had a bye.
Goddard was just one of three players to receive 10 votes, along with Fremantle star David Mundy and Collingwood backman Heath Shaw.
A quirk of the voting was that the first two games of the round – Carlton versus Hawthorn, and Richmond versus Adelaide – both featured three-way ties for best-afield honours.
In a losing team at Etihad Stadium on Friday night, Blues midfielders Bryce Gibbs and Brock McLean shared the accolades with Hawks defender Josh Gibson, while Tigers duo Brett Deledio and Dustin Martin achieved top billing with Crows powerhouse Patrick Dangerfield.
Dangerfield has moved into equal third position with Swans co-captain Kieren Jack.
Meanwhile, Hawthorn recruit Brian Lake enhanced the view that he could be the critical ingredient in the Hawks premiership campaign by producing his best performance for his new club.
