MELBOURNE has suffered a cruel blow after its miraculous win over Gold Coast, with gun forward Jake Melksham set to miss at least a month with a mid-foot fracture.

Melksham, 27, had been one of the few Demons playing well and is ranked No.1 in the competition for goal assists per game.

He was injured while kicking, when his right foot struck Suns hard nut David Swallow early in the final term, as Demons elite performance manager David Misson told melbournefc.com.au. 

"Jake's got a fracture mid-foot which is reasonably significant, so he's probably going to take at least four to five weeks," Misson said.

The news is reasonably positive for brave defender Michael Hibberd, who was on the end of a brutal bump from Swallow in the second term.

Hibberd could be back soon after a plate was inserted during surgery for his broken collarbone.

"He’s likely to miss two games," Misson said.

Despite a rolled ankle suffered against the Suns, experienced backman Jordan Lewis will likely be available to make amends for his horror preliminary final against West Coast, with the Dees set to take on the Eagles on Friday night at Optus Stadium.

After West Coast, Melbourne faces Greater Western Sydney, Adelaide and Collingwood in a tough month before the bye.
