'I'm very glad that it's happened' says Waite on moving from Blues to Roos
New Kangaroo says his move from Carlton had to be done
JARRAD Waite says he made the right call to leave Carlton, with the key forward feeling "re-energised" since crossing to North Melbourne.
The unrestricted free agent was lured to the Roos with a two-year contract offer at the end of last season.
The 31-year-old said it was tough to walk out on the Blues after 184 games in 13 years, but he believes it was the best move for his career.
"It was obviously one of the hardest decisions I've had to make but it's one of those things that I've done it now and I'm very glad that it's happened," Waite told NMFC.com.au.
"It's re-energised me, I suppose. I loved my time at Carlton but we both came to the end of it.
"I wasn't obviously sure how the transition would go but it's been really good. The club's been really accommodating and the players and the staff have been extremely friendly."
Waite's career was at the crossroads last year when he was dropped twice and battled a hamstring injury mid-season.
But the 194cm big man made the most of a recall in round 17, dominating the Roos in a four-goal performance.
North first met with Waite in July and the Roos secured his signature after their season came to an end in a preliminary final defeat to the Sydney Swans.
Since he's crossed to Arden Street, Waite said he has enjoyed a problem-free pre-season and he's confident that his body will hold up for another two seasons.
"I'm feeling really good at the moment. One thing North does really well here is the injury prevention stuff and my body hasn't felt this good for a long, long time," Waite said.
"I feel like I could play for a couple more years and maybe anything after that would be an absolute bonus."
Waite said he's starting to develop an understanding with fellow big men Drew Petrie (ankle) and Aaron Black (shoulder), after they recently rejoined game-sense training.
"Now that ‘Drewy’ and Aaron Black are coming back into the team, it’s been really good to start getting used to playing with them," Waite said.
"(Coach Brad Scott) has been really good. He's been very open with me. Obviously coming from a different game style and forward patterns, we've been sitting down and watching vision working out and tinkering that."
