REIGNING premiers one year, a September wipe-out the next.

While Western Bulldogs fans revelled in the unveiling of their first premiership flag in 62 years, they have castigated the club's horror 2017, rating the season just 3.8 out of 10 when giving their verdict on the Dogs in an AFL.com.au survey.

One shining light for the Bulldogs was the form of 23-year-old Jack Macrae, who was voted the team's player of the season with 48 per cent of the vote.

While fellow midfielder Tom Liberatore was not alone in failing to recapture his 2016 form, he was named the biggest flop of the season for the Dogs, closely followed by trade bait forward Jake Stringer.
