YOUNG Greater Western Sydney forward Jarrod Pickett will miss the rest of the season after becoming the latest player to suffer a Lisfranc injury.
Pickett, 19, went down during the second quarter of the Giants' reserves match in Canberra on Sunday after landing awkwardly in a marking contest and will have surgery to repair the fracture in his foot.
It's the same serious issue that has all but ended the year of Collingwood star Dane Swan after he was injured in round one against the Sydney Swans at the SCG.
Poor Pies setting up GWS for draft windfall
The 2014 No.4 draft pick from Western Australia is yet to make his debut for GWS, but played one NAB Challenge match earlier this year and was listed as an emergency for last week's clash with Port Adelaide.
"It's an unfortunate injury for Jarrod who has been progressing really well," GWS head of athletic performance David Joyce said.
"As is always the case with our players, Jarrod's long-term welfare is the most important thing so we'll put in place a rehabilitation program to ensure he returns stronger than ever."
Known for his speed and brilliance around goal, Pickett had his troubles adjusting to life in the AFL early in his career, but kicked 26 goals from 17 NEAFL games in 2015.
