ANOTHER domino has fallen at St Kilda after Ross Lyon's departure as coach with elite performance manager David Misson quitting the club to join Melbourne.

Misson was highly regarded as a crucial part of St Kilda's success in recent seasons.

St Kilda confirmed the resignation on Tuesday afternoon.

Misson arrived at the Saints at the end of 2007 after a successful seven-year period with the Sydney Swans where Lyon was an assistant coach.

He had previously been the fitness advisor to the Australian cricket team and has also worked with the NSW cricket team, the Australian Institute of Sport, Australian Rugby Union and Tennis Australia.

Misson worked closely with Nick Riewoldt after he severely injured his hamstring in round three last year. Riewoldt managed to return within 12 weeks after some feared he would miss the entire season.

He chronicled St Kilda's season in detail last year with his diary titled The Bubble.

Misson will take a job in charge of Melbourne's fitness department with new coach Mark Neeld heralding the appointment.

"I'm thrilled with the appointment. I'm looking forward to working with him," Neeld said.

"He has an outstanding track record and is an outstanding person with a skill set that will add plenty to the Melbourne Football Club."

St Kilda assistant coach Peter Berbakov has also left the club to return to Sydney to live.
