Dawam, who plays for the Western Jets in the TAC Cup and was a member of the AFL National Academy, didn't make the final cut for his state's squad.
But he will still be able to play in the national carnival with division two side Northern Territory after the AFL, Western Jets and AFL Victoria agreed on the move.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for him," said Kevin Sheehan, the AFL's national talent manager.
"He was missing out on getting a game at that level but the Northern Territory have got a gap. They lack taller players generally up there and had asked a number of months ago if there was a player who would fit the bill.
"The Western Jets are right behind it for him to go into a new environment and help the great running players of the Northern Territory by getting first hands to the ball. It's a win-win situation."
Dawam, of Sudanese descent, will head to Darwin on Wednesday to train with the squad ahead of Northern Territory's opening game against NSW/ACT at Blacktown on Saturday.
The 200cm prospect will also play for them when they travel to Melbourne for their final two games against Queensland (June 28) and Tasmania (July 3).
Brisbane Lions father-son prospect Tyler Roos, the son of Paul, is in New South Wales' squad, despite living in Melbourne and playing with the Sandringham Dragons.
"That's under the state of origin, and it's a case of what he chose to do. He chose to go with New South Wales and is also progressing very well with the Sandringham Dragons."
