MELBOURNE cult hero Jack Fitzpatrick has signed a two-year deal with the Demons.

It is a show of faith in the ruckman/forward who has shown solid form in the second half of 2013.

He has played every game since breaking back into the team in round 10 and kicked 15 goals in that time.

Fitzpatrick made his debut in the final round of 2011 under interim coach Todd Viney but played only four games during Mark Neeld's 33-game reign as coach.

He appeared out of favour despite good form in the VFL but since his return to the senior side he has established himself as a much-love player with supporters.

Although standing 200 centimetres tall, Fitzpatrick is quick, agile and versatile. He is a strong mark and a reasonably accurate kick, despite an ungainly action.

He kicked three goals against the Sydney Swans in round 15 and four goals in round 17 against the Brisbane Lions.

The 22-year-old has played in just one win so far with the Demons in 14 games.

General manager of football operations Josh Mahoney said the club was pleased with Fitzpatrick's progress.

"Jack has shown signs this year that he can be a good AFL player," Mahoney told melbournefc.com.au.

"He’s kicked multiple goals in a number of games this year as a key forward and his ruck work is continuing to improve.

"Jack has had an injury interrupted start to his AFL career, but hopefully he can finish off this season [strongly] and have a good pre-season. We still think he’s got a lot of scope for improvement in his game."
