About the Role
The Commercial Events Manager is responsible for leading the development, management, and execution of specified events across the commercial events portfolio - from concept through to delivery. This role generates innovative and commercially minded events that support the objectives of the broader Commercial team.
Reporting to the Head of Corporate, Events and Philanthropy, this position is responsible for the implementation of operational systems and strategic decision-making, along with management of financial functions in the Events team. This role requires experience in event delivery and a strong understanding of the events industry, particularly in relation to c-suite level executives, along with demonstrated ability to implement processes that drive outcomes.
This is a 12-month full time contract position to commence in April/May 2025.
Key Accountabilities
- Collaborate with relevant business units to ensure event partners are integrated and obligated deliverables are met.
- Liaise/negotiate directly with external talent for event content engagement.
- Provide creative and innovative solutions for events portfolio that achieve organisational objectives.
- Management from concept through to execution and feedback across designated events.
- Manage budgets and forecasts for designated events including identification of risks and opportunities.
- Follow robust processes for budgeting and forecasting that allow for efficient and accurate engagement with Finance Department.
- Consistent review of suppliers, identification of opportunities and negotiation of agreements.
- Continually assess all processes across key activities and KPAs in the Events team to fuel greater efficiency and clarity.
- Manage detailed documentation and protocols for customer centric CRM process, event planning and delivery.
- Help drive the annual events schedule in the planning phase, including but not limited to – date/timing, venues, key content, internal requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams (Sales, CIB, Partnerships, Foundation) on strategic development of events schedule content.
- Liaise and manage relationships with key external stakeholders and suppliers.
- Lead designated events in the delivery of the Carlton Football Club events program across AFL, AFLW, Coteries, Carlton IN Business, Foundation and Major Events.
- Drive improved processes within the Events team relating to data capture, customer insights and net provider score (NPS) working collaboratively with Insight Analysts.
- Proficiency in CRM system allowing for utilisation across key event functions. (Table plans, communications, RSVPs, etc.).
- Ensure accurate reporting and guest information using the CRM system.
Experience, Skills and Attributes
- Qualifications in Event Management, Business, Commerce, Marketing or related field.
- Experience in a similar role within the AFL or sports industry is desirable.
- Proven experience in managing event logistics and delivery.
- Demonstrated understanding of CRM systems with a confident use of the interface.
- Ability to lead budgeting and forecasting processes accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to coordinate a variety of tasks simultaneously within set timeframes.
- Experience in managing direct report(s).
- Ability to develop relationships with a variety of internal and external providers, providing excellent levels of customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to be proactive and solutions focused to accomplish a goal.
- Strong financial and business acumen with the ability to set KPIs, identify inefficiencies/cost saving opportunities and meet all financial targets.
- High level of initiative, with the ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail; ability to make decisions with due consideration.
