THE WESTERN Bulldogs' aim to match Hawthorn's 'destination club' status should encourage Jason Johannisen to re-sign, premiership coach Luke Beveridge says.

Johannisen, whose current deal expires at season's end, deferred contract discussions earlier in the year but has since resumed talks with the club.

The reigning Norm Smith medallist had been expected to attract significant interest from across the League.

Beveridge said becoming an attractive destination, similar to what the Hawks achieved during their premiership era, should be the key factor to Johannisen re-signing.

"We're having good discussions with Jason's management," Beveridge told Fox Footy on Monday night.

"There's no doubt he's become a very influential player and it's understandable that other clubs are interested.

"The Hawks for a long time had that destination club title which was very apt and they've earned it. And for us to be a club that players want to stay at, want to come to, we've got to do a lot right every day.

"We'll offer 'J' a really solid contract but we hope that he wants to stay because he loves where he plays and he loves where he works and he loves his teammates."

AFL.com.au reported in March that the 24-year-old's manager had paused negotiations with the Bulldogs because the parties could not settle on the terms of a new deal.

Johannisen, the No.39 selection in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft at the end of 2010, has played 71 games for the Bulldogs since debuting in round 19, 2012.
