GEELONG may spring a selection surprise for Saturday's meeting with Melbourne after elevating rookie James Parsons to its senior list on Thursday.
The 19-year-old returned from a foot injury two weeks ago to play in a VFL practice match against North Ballarat, and continued his good form against Williamstown last Saturday with two goals and 18 disposals.
The Cats need to replace injured midfielder George Horlin-Smith, who broke his hand moments before kicking the match-winning goal against North Melbourne last Sunday.
While Sam Menegola would appear to be first in line to come into the team as Horlin-Smith's replacement, the Cats may be tempted to make more than one change after struggling to contain the Kangaroos at the stoppages.
Selected by the Cats with pick No.27 in the 2016 rookie draft, Parsons impressed in the VFL last year, and looked a chance to play a pre-season game before he broke his foot in January while on a short break in Yarrawonga.
Parsons is a tall midfielder with a similar build to former Cats' great Joel Corey.
His elevation was made possible when unlucky small forward Cory Gregson was placed on the long-term injury list as he recovers from a navicular injury.
