THE 24th annual EJ Whitten Legends Game will be revitalised this year in a faster, fun and intensified format at a new home - AAMI Park in Melbourne, enabling fans to get closer to the action and player banter than ever before.
Drawing inspiration from the AFL’s AFLX format, the game this year will be dubbed ‘EJX’ and promises to be a thriller with the ledger currently even at one draw and 11 wins each for Victoria and the All Stars.
Held during the AFL’s Celebration of Football week, it will be a case of rivalry meets revelry as legends of the game and celebrities go head-to-head in honour of the late great Ted Whitten Senior to drive awareness and raise funds for men’s health.

And while research into men’s health is serious business, the game itself will be not-so-serious!
The match will be played over four 15-minute quarters with 10-point supergoals from outside the launch zone, as well as ‘X-factor’ moments including celebrity Power Players – introduced at the 10-minute mark of each quarter with potential to score double-points for their team.
Run by the EJ Whitten Foundation (EJWF) and supported by the AFL and the AFL’s broadcast partners, the much-loved EJ Whitten Legends Game raises awareness on the importance of early detection and treatment of men’s health issues.
EJWF Founder, Ted Whitten Junior, said the evolution of the game, now in its 24th year, was warmly welcomed by both the Foundation and the Whitten family.
“The EJ Whitten Legends Game is a fun and entertaining family footy spectacle that is designed to raise awareness and discussion around men’s health issues.”
“Too many men, like my father Ted, fail to engage with their health until it’s too late. The Legends Game is a platform to spread our important message: It’s Time To Test, to encourage men to get an annual health check,” Ted said.
Since its inception, the EJ Whitten Foundation has raised over $13.5 million for men’s health awareness programs and prostate cancer research and treatment - contributing to the EJ Whitten Foundation Prostate Cancer Research Centre at Epworth, Monash University for Research into Prostate Cancer and the rollout of Time To Test community programs.
The 2019 EJ Whitten Legends Game will be broadcast from 7.30pm EST on Friday August 30 by the Seven Network and Foxtel, and via the Telstra AFL Live Pass and Kayo. Tickets will go on sale from 9am on August 2, via ticketek.com.au. The star-studded line-up of players will be announced shortly.
