MAJAK Daw is making encouraging progress during his lengthy rehabilitation but North Melbourne remains uncertain about whether he will return to the field this year.
The Kangaroos big man suffered significant pelvic and hip injuries after plunging from Melbourne's Bolte Bridge on December 17, after which it was revealed he had battled mental health issues.
The 28-year-old, who has played 50 AFL games for the Roos, including 18 in a career-best 2018 season as a key defender, is gradually working his way back to fitness.
The club is pleased with the inroads made by Daw but continues to take a conservative approach with his recovery.
"He's going really well," North Melbourne's interim coach Rhyce Shaw told Channel Seven on Sunday.
"He's had a few hiccups here and there but that's the case with any injury. I actually saw him the other day, running and having a kick and doing some one-on-one stuff, so all signs are good at the moment.
"It's going to be a great story when he does come back."
Asked whether Daw would play this season, Shaw was non-committal.
"We're not putting any pressure on Maj. It's his timeline – whenever he feels comfortable," he said.
"As a club we want to make sure that he's in a really good spot when he does come back."

Meanwhile, experienced backman Jamie Macmillan remains a chance to face Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday despite scans revealing he damaged his left calf in the second quarter of the win over Richmond on Friday night.
"He had a scan and I think there's a little nick there but we're just going to see how he goes during the week," Shaw said.
"We've got eight days (between games) so that plays into his hands a little bit, but he'll obviously be monitored early on."
