CARLTON and livewire forward Jarrod Pickett have agreed to part ways.

Pickett, who is recovering from a long-term knee injury sustained last summer, played just 17 AFL games after being recruited to Greater Western Sydney with pick No.4 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

He will return home to Western Australia.

The 22-year-old has been absent since last December, when he ruptured his patella during the club's final training session before its Christmas break.

He had previously endured a wrist injury that hampered what had shaped as a promising 2018 season, having shown impressive signs during that year's JLT Community Series.

"Both parties have made the decision to part ways now in order to allow Jarrod to get back home to his family," Carlton list boss Stephen Silvagni said in a statement.

"We will provide Jarrod with the necessary assistance he requires to begin the next chapter of his life and we wish him all the best for the future."

Pickett was an early draft pick at the Giants, having enjoyed a stellar junior career with WAFL side South Fremantle, but didn't break through for his senior debut at the club.

He was traded to Carlton alongside Caleb Marchbank in 2016, playing 10 games in his first season at the club but only managing seven appearances last year.
