Sixteen players participating in the 2019 NAB League Boys competition have been named in the NAB AFL Australian Under-17 squad to face the New Zealand Falcons at Marvel Stadium this Saturday.

The international match will take place from 1.30pm as a curtain-raiser to the St Kilda vs Adelaide AFL game.

The bottom-age cohort of the NAB AFL Academy has travelled to New Zealand for camps that conclude with this match since 2012, but the Falcons will this time come to Australia due to the changed AFL Academy program in 2019.

AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan said he looked forward to an exciting game between some of Australia’s top 2020 NAB AFL Draft prospects and the open-aged New Zealand team.

“To represent your country in your chosen sport is one of the highest honours anyone can achieve,” Sheehan said.

“The NAB AFL Australian Under-17 team comprises primarily of players who were selected as NAB AFL All-Australians at under-16 level last year as well as several 17-year-olds who have performed well over the year.

“The open-aged New Zealand team comprises players who were selected in recent National League matches as well as several New Zealanders now playing in competitions in Australia.”
