THE COMPANY
Champion Data is a privately owned Australian sports statistics, media and technology Company delivering high quality research, content, technology and television solutions to media, sport organisations and other professional clients.
We work across all major Australian sports including AFL, NRL, Rugby Union, Football and Netball.
Currently we employ 75 permanent employees and approximately 275 casual employees throughout Australia. The company has experienced strong growth over a sustained period and has quickly moved from a small company to medium size business.
THE ROLE
We are now seeking highly motivated people to join our casual match day data collection teams in the states outlined below:
- Canberra (AFL and NEAFL competitions)
- New South Wales (AFL and NEAFL competitions)
- Queensland – Gold Coast (AFL and NEAFL competitions)
- South Australia (SANFL competition)
- Tasmania – Launceston (AFL and NAB League competitions)
- Victoria - Melbourne (AFL and multiple Tier 2 competitions)
- Western Australia (WAFL competition)
There are positions available across various roles during the 2020 Season for AFL and Tier 2 competitions. These matches are played between February and September across the AFL, NAB League, VFL, VFL Women’s, NEAFL, SANFL and WAFL competitions.
The Tier 2 roles include:
- LIVE CALLER (call live player statistics to capture operator using a pair of binoculars provided by the employee) – live role at venue
- LIVE CALLER SUPPORT (assist Caller with live stats call using a pair of binoculars provided by the employee) – live role at venue
- LIVE CAPTURE (listening to the caller and capturing all statistics using a computer and mouse provided by the company) – live role at venue for SANFL/WAFL competitions and Melbourne office for all other competitions
The AFL roles include:
- MATCHUP OPERATOR (capture on ground match-ups) – live role at venue
- INTERCHANGE OPERATOR (capture interchange moves) – live role at venue
- SPOTTER (assist match-ups and interchange with player identification) – live role at venue
THE CANDIDATE
The roles require a self-motivated person with extensive knowledge in AFL as well as the following:
- High availability for scheduled matches as per the 2020 Australian Rules Football Fixtures in the specific state
- A thorough knowledge of the rules of AFL (essential)
- A proven record in accountability, reliability and punctuality
- Clear and concise communication skills
- Familiarity with Windows environments
- Capable under pressure
- Work on a rotating roster alongside existing casual staff
- Communicate openly by exchanging information and actively listening to all stakeholders
- Work together collaboratively to achieve outstanding results
- To be a flexible and lateral thinker

APPLICATION/TRAINING TIMELINE
All applicants must be able to commit to the following throughout the screening/interview process which will take place between October and December 2019.
- Complete a 15-30 minute Screening Test over the phone
- Participate in an interview via Skype
- Complete a 30-45 minute Role evaluation over the phone (Tier 2 roles only)
Tier 2 applicants must also be able to commit to the following during the training process:
- A minimum of 15 one hour sessions with their trainer between January and April (Caller/Caller Support roles)
- A minimum of 20 one hour sessions with their trainer between January and April (Capture roles)
Note: training can be conducted over the phone or in person (Melbourne office)
