IN A season where St Kilda's conversion is the worst in the League, Jack Billings has emerged as the most wayward player in the competition since his debut year in 2014.

Furthermore, the left-footer is kicking for goal as poorly as ever.

It's a phenomenon that's difficult to believe because Billings is widely considered among the finest field kicks in the competition.

Of all players with at least 100 shots at goal since the start of 2014, Billings is the most inaccurate, with a 35 per cent success rate, and has the worst goalkick rating (-11 per cent).

Goalkick rating considers where a player's shots are taken from, what type of kicks they are and how much pressure the player was under.

Through six games this year, Billings' goal kick rating of -22 per cent is easily the poorest mark of his career, and he has tallied 4.11 to date.

He has missed with snaps as well. Throughout Billings' career, he's nailed just eight out of 36 such attempts.

Justin Wenke was coach of the Oakleigh Chargers when Billings played his TAC Cup football there and he told AFL.com.au it wasn't a problem that affected the prodigious young talent back then.

"As a junior, from my perspective coaching him, he didn't show any of that, anything that he's showing now around goal," Wenke said.

"He's actually a really nice player on the run kicking goals. That's probably what I remember of him."

While Billings managed only three games in his top-age season before being drafted at No.3 in 2013, he lined up 10 times for the Chargers the previous year and starred.

Wenke is now at the helm of the Northern Knights and believes the "footy head" will eventually fix his goalkicking.

"He's one of those ripping kids you coach that are highly talented and highly motivated. I'd be pretty confident he'll get it right," Wenke said.

"He's wired that way.

"He's such a competitive kid. I hope he gets it right, sooner rather than later I suppose, for St Kilda's sake."

It's a problem the Saints need to rectify team-wide because leading into round seven, they had the worst kick rating of any side this year (-7.6 per cent), with Brisbane (-7.4 per cent) and the Western Bulldogs (-7 per cent) just ahead.
