VFL CLUB Williamstown has joined the chorus of concern surrounding the AFL's newly announced mid-season rookie draft.

Seagulls chief executive Jason Reddick has revealed state league clubs are preparing to deliver a united response to League Headquarters.

"The actual formality of it certainly was something that we weren't consulted on and that's led to a level of frustration among state leagues and state league clubs," Reddick told NAB AFL Trade Radio. 

"Amongst the general managers, especially of the standalone clubs, there's been a lot of correspondence happening.

"We're going to get together with the other state league clubs and talk about those sort of options and present a position.

"We like to be a talent pathway, but we can't just be left, if you like, not holding the baby because of these rules."

Late Thursday the League confirmed plans for a mid-season rookie draft, which will allow AFL clubs to top up their lists at a date to be fixed.

The plan has already received a sceptical reaction from the SANFL and WAFL.
