BOOM recruit Tom Rockliff will definitely be in Port Adelaide's line-up for its season opener against Fremantle, according to coach Ken Hinkley.
Rockliff won't have any pre-season form going into the round one clash due to a right knee injury that will force him to miss Saturday's JLT Community Series game with Adelaide at Alberton Oval.
But Hinkley, speaking at the Power's season launch and Hall of Fame function at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Thursday night, said Rockliff was a certain starter to face the Dockers on March 24 at Adelaide Oval.
"Rocky won't play, but if it was round one, he'd be there," Hinkley said.
"We won't take any risks, it's that simple.
"These are the things you do in the pre-season, you've got 22-plus games to come which are really important.
"One trial game won't make or break good players."
Midfield bull Sam Powell-Pepper will also sit out the encounter with the Crows due to shoulder soreness sustained in their first pre-season game against West Coast on February 25.
"(Powell-Pepper) won't play, he's got a little bit of a sore shoulder and we wouldn't take the risk," Hinkley said.
Former Lions skipper Rockliff joined the Power on a four-year contract as a free agent at the end of last season.
He's part of an off-season recruiting spree that netted former Geelong speedster Steven Motlop and ex-Demon Jack Watts that has given Power supporters optimism they can challenge for the flag.
Watts didn't collect his Power jumper on stage with the rest of the new recruits after leaving early because of illness.
"We were brave enough to make some changes over the off-season," Hinkley said.
"We've brought in some young players, we've brought in some mature-age players, it's exciting and we want to start playing.
"We're very hopeful that the excitement the fans have got, we'll live up to that and a bit more."
Premiership captain Warren Tredrea headlined the latest group of Port Adelaide greats inducted to the club's Hall of Fame.
The champion key forward booted 559 goals in 264 AFL/SANFL games, was acting captain of the 2004 AFL premiership side and was a four-time John Cahill Medallist and four-time All-Australian.
Joining Tredrea were premiership-winning coach and player Mark Williams, tough defender Paul Northeast and respected player and administrator Bob Clayton.
The Port Adelaide premiership teams that went on a six-year run of dominance from 1954 to 1959 were also honoured in the Hall of Fame.
