A BEST-ON-GROUND performance from Emma Kearney in the Western Bulldogs' last-minute win over Melbourne has seen her tie with Adelaide's Chelsea Randall in the AFL Coaches Association AFLW Champion Player of the Year award.
Randall was three votes clear of Kearney's teammate Ellie Blackburn and six ahead of Kearney coming into the final round of the season.
Kearney's 20 disposals, eight clearances and a goal against Melbourne was enough to get her the 10 votes from coaches Paul Groves and Mick Stinear, leapfrogging Blackburn and tying with Randall.
By contrast, Randall was best-afield at half-time of Adelaide's match against Collingwood.
A mystery head knock saw her benched for the second half, but her first two quarters – 14 disposals (all kicks) and five marks – had been so impressive she still managed to poll four votes.
Blackburn finished in third position, while Brisbane Lions defender Kate Lutkins came fourth.
Sabrina Frederick-Traub (Brisbane), Dana Hooker (Fremantle) and Jaimee Lambert (Collingwood) all received 10 votes for their matches in round seven.
