COLLINGWOOD is set to regain some star power in the coming weeks, with important duo Jamie Elliott and Jordan De Goey set to play in the VFL this weekend.
Coach Nathan Buckley revealed on SEN on Tuesday injury-prone Elliott would resume from an ankle complaint that's hampered him for most of the pre-season, while De Goey has recovered from a hamstring injury he sustained training with the VFL squad following a club-imposed ban for being caught drink-driving in February.
"Jordan De Goey and Jamie Elliott will play VFL this week. They will start to push back (into the senior side)," Buckley said.
"They've actually had a decent block of training, so whether it is one or two weeks down there, we will assess based on what we see."
Buckley confirmed key forward Ben Reid would be available after missing the loss to Greater Western Sydney on the weekend with a hip concern.
Ruckman Mason Cox could also face Carlton at the MCG on Friday night, after the American served a one-match ban for striking Hawk Dan Howe in round one.
While it was widely believed key midfielder Daniel Wells had recovered from his latest calf concern, Buckley said the former Kangaroo was likely to unavailable for at least a few more weeks.
The 33-year-old will have Darcy Moore for company in the rehab group after the versatile tall strained his hamstring in the loss to the Giants on the weekend.
"Daniel Wells is still a couple away, Darcy Moore will be three to four weeks depending on how he comes up clinically," Buckley said.
"We will have Mason Cox and Ben Reid available this weekend, and they will definitely provide a little bit of structure that we missed last week.
"We are going through the standards ins and outs that happen, but nothing seems to be standard for us."
Buckley said Kayle Kirby won't play this weekend after the second-year forward collapsed during a VFL practice match on Saturday due to a heart condition, but Alex Fasolo, Jarryd Blair and Chris Mayne were all in the selection frame to face the Blues.
"(Fasolo) has played six quarters of really strong (VFL) footy," he said.
"He didn't do a lot of training with ball in hand with his shoulder, but he is really running fit.
"'Faz' will have his opportunities no doubt. He and Jarryd Blair were pulled from the VFL game at half-time on Saturday. Chris Mayne will be fit.
"We have a few guys available for selection who weren't available last weekend. We will find the best fit for this week."
