COLLINGWOOD has re-signed former top-10 pick Matthew Scharenberg and confirmed James Aish's contract extension.

AFL.com.au revealed on Tuesday that midfielder Aish had agreed to a two-year extension.

The Pies have also announced Scharenberg will remain at the club until at least 2020 after producing the best football of his career this season. 

A highly rated junior, the 22-year-old endured a run of knee and foot issues after being snared with pick six in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft.

But Scharenberg has overcome those setbacks and is averaging 21 disposals in 11 games this year, playing mainly across half-back. 

"We're only now seeing him realise the potential we saw in him when he was drafted," list manager Ned Guy told the club website. 

"We're seeing his calmness under pressure and his ability to play on talls and smalls.

"It's a testament to his resilience after all he's been through."

Fellow South Australian product Aish, who went one pick after Scharenberg in the draft, played the opening six games this year before a PCL issue halted his progress.

"They've travelled similar paths, are both from the same state, were drafted in the same year, and they've both had their challenges trying to establish themselves," Guy said of Aish and Scharenberg.

"Their shared journey continues with them signing on for the same period of time.

"This is recognition for the resilience and grit of both of them." 

Ex-Lion Aish is hopeful of returning later this season as the Pies aim to feature in finals for the first time in five years. 

First-year Pie Nathan Murphy and the Brown brothers, Callum and Tyler, have also re-signed recently.
