THE WESTERN Bulldogs are this year set to have their earliest draft selection since they picked Marcus Bontempelli at No.4 in 2013.

But the Dogs have an interesting hand of choices for this year's NAB AFL Draft given the emergence of father-son prospect Rhylee West as a possible first-round choice.

As seen in AFL.com.au's indicative draft order, the Dogs hold pick No.5 this season, putting them in a strong position to grab one of the highly-rated prospects at the top end of the draft.

However, after that the Bulldogs' next pick is in the third round (currently No.41) and with a bid expected to come for West, the son of club great Scott, inside the first 25 picks it means the club would need to secure another pick in the second round during the trade period or risk going into a draft points deficit under the father-son and academy bidding system.

West is a dogged midfielder who has been excellent in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 25 disposals in three games for Vic Metro.

The Bulldogs also have first call on Next Generation Academy prospect Buku Khamis, who has impressed for Vic Metro throughout the national under-18 carnival.
