MELBOURNE veteran Jordan Lewis won't play another practice game after suffering a minor calf strain.

However, the Demons insist the 31-year-old will be ready for the side's season opener against Geelong.

"Jordan felt some calf tightness in the first quarter of the JLT game down in Kingston on the weekend," football operations manager Josh Mahoney told melbournefc.com.au

"Scans have shown a minor strain and at this stage we won’t take any risks during this period and he won’t play JLT two.

"But we’re confident he’ll be available for round one, as he’s done a full pre-season, has got a lot of confidence in his legs and he’s an experienced player."

Lewis will miss Melbourne's game against St Kilda at Casey Fields on Thursday, March 8.

He played 19 games last season, in his debut year with the Demons.
