YOUNG Brisbane key position player Sam Skinner is set to return from a third knee reconstruction on Saturday in the Lions' NEAFL team.
Skinner ruptured the ACL in his left knee in August last year and has made excellent progress to return.
The 20-year-old is expected to be named in the Lions' team to play Greater Western Sydney in a curtain-raiser to the main game at the Gabba.
It would complete the latest comeback in a rocky start to his career.
Skinner came to the Lions via the 2015 NAB AFL Draft in the midst of rehabilitation from his first ruptured ACL.
Then, on the eve of his senior debut in 2016, the young Victorian was dealt the cruelest of blows, suffering a repeat of the injury in the team's final training run before playing Port Adelaide.
After making it all the way back last year, Skinner played in round 19 against West Coast in Perth and impressed with two goals before being sent back to the NEAFL.
It was there he suffered his third ACL injury – in the opposite knee to the first two.
Lions draftee Toby Wooller is also expected to be named for his first NEAFL game for the club after spending almost three months overcoming a broken ring finger.
