IT WAS another stunning round, where we saw the Pig Tom Mitchell tagged to another sub-100 score and Stephen Coniglio became the highest scoring player of the year. Rookies Tom Doedee and Tim English showed our premiums how it is done, reaching triple figures to leave coaches like myself ruing the decision to leave them both riding the pine. Remember, the first rollout of DPPs is here, so enjoy having a look at what they could do for your team moving forward.

Fantasy Pig

Max Gawn coaches had pencilled in a big score against the Tigers and he didn’t let them down. The big fella had a field day in the hit-out department with 56, to add to his 16 possessions, six marks and eight tackles for 143. The popular starting ruck has certainly proven to be one of the best selections so far this season.

Honourable mention: Brett Deledio is heating up and, dare I say it, becoming a legitimate option. The veteran is finally moving freely and embracing his outside game at the Giants where his full skill set was on display against the Saints with 136 points from 29 touches, eight marks, six tackles and two goals. This was on the back of a solid 88 last week and he would certainly be considered a high risk, high reward trade target.

Rage trades

Bryce Gibbs. Now, there is no way you would trade Gibbs, who is having an outstanding season but there are plenty of disappointed coaches out there who put the C on him. It was a reminder that expectations of Gibbs need to be curbed if he is the last man standing in the midfield missing the likes of Matt Crouch and popular tag target Rory Sloane.

Honourable mention: Buddy Franklin obviously played through injury, but he has also done it the last couple of rounds and scored very well. Playing on a bruised heel, the star forward managed just 55 with one goal and a telling factor was his lack of tackling pressure, which has been a highlight this year. It has already been stated that he will not play against the Cats next week and will certainly come under trade consideration.

Piglet

Jack Higgins was given a second opportunity due to some timely Tiger injuries and the star junior embraced it with both hands. We all knew he was built for Fantasy and it was on full display against the Dees with 14 possessions and six tackles to go with three goals for 85.

David Mirra didn’t disappoint once again and is still cheap enough to use as a downgrade target. He had 17 possessions and six marks for the Hawks for 64 points and the mature ager looks to be a very serviceable bench option.

Trade targets

  • Robbie Gray (Beware the Ben Jacobs tag)
  • Jack Higgins
  • Zach Merrett
  • Nat Fyfe

THINGS WE LEARNED: The Dees have forgotten how to score

If you look purely at the heat maps available to all of us, it would be hard to justify. However, Champion Data use more in-depth statistics in order to make the call.

You have done well, 2000 was about par this week.

They would be coming into my team if they did get it, but unfortunately we don’t get a say in it and therefore you will have to hope they pull their finger out in your midfield.
