NORTH Melbourne youngster Will Walker is expected to be fit for the first day of pre-season after avoiding a serious knee injury last weekend.
Walker was helped from the field in the Roos' loss to Adelaide on Sunday with a knee injury, and there were concerns he could be set for an extended stint on the sidelines.
The 19-year-old was in a knee brace on Monday at the club, but scans have revealed only a minor PCL injury meaning he will not require surgery.
"My plan is to be all systems go by day one of pre-season," he told the club's website.
"Not having surgery, it takes about four to six weeks off your recovery time and obviously there won't be much scarring going on in the joint, so it's quite good.
"Hopefully I'll be out of the brace in a few weeks' time and will start to get some weight-bearing back into it and be running soon after that."
Walker was busy early in the contest before suffering the injury, gathering nine disposals and kicking a goal in a lively display.
He was North's second pick at last year's NAB AFL Draft (No.23 overall) and was in his fourth game of the season.
"I've never done a knee before, so I had no idea of what I could have done," he said.
"It was very painful, so I was kind of fearing the worst but hoping for the best.
"As soon as the doc said he didn’t think it was anything too major, it was a big relief."
