PREMIERSHIP ruckman Scott Lycett will continue to lean on fellow free agent Andrew Gaff as they contemplate their futures at West Coast.

Just moments after tasting success, Lycett called for "patience" before he confirms his intentions for 2019, expected to be announced in the coming days.

Both face the prospect of a return home: Lycett is tipped to land at Port Adelaide on a four-year deal, while Gaff considers a move to North Melbourne on a mega-contract.

"I'm going to enjoy this win and then obviously I'm going to have to make a decision at some stage," Lycett told AFL.com.au.

"I've just been speaking with 'Gaffy', 'Jezza' (Jeremy McGovern) and other guys out of contract, guys who have been in that position before.

"Gaffy's one of my best mates, we're in a very similar position both being from interstate. I just wish he could've played with us and have a medallion around his neck.

"No matter what happens, if Gaffy goes and I stay or vice versa, we're going to be brothers and I'll love him for life."

DARLING'S BLUNDER 10 things we learned from the Grand Final

Drafted together in 2010, the pair have become close friends in their eight seasons together at the Eagles.

Describing Gaff and the rest of his Eagles' teammates as "brothers," Lycett admits it would be hard to walk out following a flag.

THE MOMENT 'Sheed's got the most impossible goal'

"It would for sure (be tough)," Lycett said.

"I love this club, to leave would be devastating, but that will all play out in the future and I'm just going to enjoy the Grand Final win.

"I've said all year it's not about me and my contract, it's about the team.

"I said I would rather win a Grand Final than even get another contract. So I guess if I retire now it's all good (laughs)."

'IT BLED A BIT' McGovern reveals he almost missed GF

With West Coast's best and fairest on Friday, the same day as the free agency period is deemed officially open, both decisions could be made public inside the next 72 hours.

Following the function, Gaff will head to Tasmania with his partner before holidaying in North Queensland.

KING KENNEDY Every Eagle rated from the Grand Final

After Lycett was limited to just one AFL game in 2017 due to two separate shoulder injuries, his contract was the furthest thing from his mind as he targeted early games this season.

He took time to reassess his options during the mid-year bye and West Coast was believed to be confident in his re-commitment before the end of round 23.

It's understood that many at West Coast felt if Lycett's signature hadn't been obtained by the end of the home and away season, it would be a mighty task to retain him into 2019.

When Nic Naitanui went down with an ACL midway through the round 16 win over Collingwood, Lycett was handed the task of shouldering the No.1 ruck mantle.

Aided by Nathan Vardy, Lycett and the Eagles went on to win seven of the next nine games, but a decision on the South Australian's future continued to be delayed.

With Port Adelaide's Paddy Ryder battling with injuries, the Power circled even harder for Lycett in the back-end of the season to lure him back to his junior club.

Coach Ken Hinkley, who is said to be quietly confident of having Lycett's magnet on his whiteboard next season, would have raised a smile watching the 26-year-old outmark Brodie Grundy in a crucial one-on-one in the third term.

Eagles list boss Brady Rawlings, who embraced his list management team in the rooms after the siren, won't have a first-round pick as his disposal unless Lycett and/or Gaff depart.

Having used the Eagles' 2018 first-round selection last year as part of a swap with Gold Coast, Rawlings could be left with two end-of-first-round picks this season should West Coast farewell the pair.

As Geelong's midfield sensation Tim Kelly ponders a move home, a first-round pick could be used as part of a package to land the West Australian after one season at the Cats.
