ST KILDA defender Jack Newnes will be monitored closely ahead of next week's clash against Hawthorn after sustaining concussion in the first term on Saturday.
Newnes lay face down on the Etihad Stadium turf following a bump from Greater Western Sydney ruckman Dawson Simpson.
With eyes on the football, Simpson turned as Newnes ran into him on the broadcast wing.

A proppy Newnes then ran from the ground after the Saints' medical team attended, before he was taken down to the rooms for further assessment.
"He was still a little bit crook after the game," coach Alan Richardson said post-match.
"Like all of those things, it'll just be how does he pull up and how does he respond?
"They go through all the cogs they test, but we'll just have to wait and see on that."
Newnes holds the fourth-longest active games streak in the competition, with Saturday's clash his 93rd in a row.
He was also concussed against Sydney in round nine last year.
