BRISBANE coach Chris Fagan wants Mitch Robinson to keep playing "on the edge" despite the midfielder copping a one-match suspension in round one.
Robinson missed last week's loss against Melbourne after being rubbed out for a strike on St Kilda's Seb Ross in the opening week.
He is available to line up against Port Adelaide on Saturday and is expected to be regain his spot.
Fagan said Robinson made his teammates "walk taller" when he played, and he wanted the 28-year-old to continue his aggressive ways.
"I want Mitch to play on edge, I want him to play that way," Fagan said.
"We don't want him to get suspended obviously.
"He plays tough and hard.
"Guys that play tough and hard are going to be a little bit prone to that sort of thing, but we don't want to back down and not play in that manner."
Fagan described the incident as more of a reflex action, but agreed the suspension was justified.
He said Robinson set a great example in terms of contested ball and pressure on the opposition, something the Lions would need against a Port team fresh of beating premiership fancies Sydney.
Ahead of Saturday's match at Adelaide Oval, Fagan has encouraged Brisbane to play "fearless" despite a rash of turnovers costing them chances to win against both the Saints and Demons.
In both matches the Lions have given up early leads, fought back to be within a kick in the final quarter, only to lose.
"We have to encourage our players to make the decision, pull the trigger," Fagan said.
"They'll make better decision as they become more experienced.
"I don't want them to go back into their shells because that's a disaster, you're not pushing your limits, you're not trying to get better, you're just playing with fear and playing with fear gets you nowhere.
"We have to be a fearless team."
