PERSISTENT foot soreness will sideline Geelong swingman Harry Taylor yet again as concern increases over his return to play this season.
As the Cats prepare for the potential of an unchanged line-up against Brisbane on Saturday, coach Chris Scott admits he has no timeframe on Taylor's latest injury.
The clash with the Lions will be 32-year-old's third consecutive week on the sidelines, his tendon issue coming in the left foot that reduced him to just three games before round 15.
"That foot issue is persisting, there's not a lot of clarity around when he'll be back," Scott said on Thursday.
"We still don't think it's serious but he's not right this week. We still need to investigate that one a little bit further."
While Scott believes Taylor's tendon complaint is separate to his two previous plantar fascia setbacks in the same foot, he said Taylor would need big weeks on the track to return.
"At his best he does (walk into the team) but we can't guarantee right at the moment that when his foot's right he's physically going to be at his best because he's missed a bit of training," he said.
While Taylor was a no-show during Thursday's main session, the Cats were buoyed by the sight of Esava Ratugolea ramping up his return from injury with straight-line running.
The move of Jack Henry forward last week is set to continue against the Lions, with Scott saying he could see the switch working in the long-term.
Charlie Constable will be forced to wait at least one more week for his AFL debut as the coach forecasted an unchanged line-up for the first time this year.
With the Cats' VFL team set for a bye this week, Lachie Fogarty, Stewart Crameri (both groin soreness) and Lincoln McCarthy (hamstring) will have one more week of rest.
Saturday's meeting with Brisbane at GMHBA Stadium with be Scott's 400th AFL game combined as player/coach, coming against the club where he enjoyed two premierships.
